Are osteopathy, massage, shockwave therapy, taping, dry needling and cupping therapy safe treatment options?

These types of therapies are very safe. Osteopaths undergo at least 4 years of intense medical training and gain an extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology. They become experts in musculoskeletal disorders and are trained to promptly identify any contraindication to any of these treatments. Should this be the case during your consultation, alternative treatment options will be discussed with you in order to offer you the best treatment plan. You are in very safe hands!

How many sessions will I need?

This will depend on your condition and the time you had it for. Acute conditions usually take just a couple of treatments. Subacute and chronic conditions may need few more. If considered to be beneficial, we may also recommend having maintenance treatments regularly at different time intervals. Your practitioner will discuss this with you based on your individual needs. The aim is to always try get you better as soon as possible!

Will I receive treatment on my first visit?

Of course! During the initial consultation, your osteopath will go through few medical questions followed by a thorough examination of the symptomatic areas. Then, you will be given a diagnosis and a treatment plan which includes treatment from the first appointment.

Are there any side effects to treatment?

Osteopathy, massage, shockwave therapy, taping, cupping therapy and dry needling may all result in some discomfort post treatment. On occasions, some bruising may also occur although this is uncommon. Any soreness should not last more than few days after treatment.

Do you guarantee treatment success?

We cannot guarantee treatment success. We will, however, endeavour to get you feeling better as soon as possible using the best of our capabilities. In some cases, osteopathic treatment may not provide favourable results, and this may indicate that your condition is beyond our ability to help. In these situations, we will refer you to a specialist.

Will I have to undress?

We may ask you to undress partially during your consultation. However, we want you to feel completely comfortable during your treatment and you will not be asked to undress any more than you are happy to. We advise wearing suitable attire for manual therapy consultations (i.e., loose shorts or underwear, sports bra/vest…)

How much do treatments cost?

Do I need GP referral?

No, you do not need a GP referral to be treated by an osteopath. You can be seen as soon as you like.

How can I book an appointment?

Are you registered with private healthcare insurance providers?

Do you provide home visits?

Yes, we can provide home visits. This service will be charged at an extra fee and is subject to the availability of the practitioner. Is there any cancellation policy in place?

Yes, The Centre of Osteopathy & Sports Medicine operates a 24h cancellation policy. You can read more about it by clicking on the button below.

Do you provide referral letters?

If you would like to request a letter from one of our practitioners for referral, insurance or legal reasons, we reserve the right to charge a £50 fee, as this service requires to be done outside working hours.

Do you take card payments?

Yes, we take all credit and debit cards, including American Express as well as accepting cash, cheques and bank transfers.

Do you have wheelchair access?

The Centre of Osteopathy & Sports Medicine are wheelchair friendly and accessible. Our clinic, reception area and treatment room are on the ground floor.

Do you have toilet facilities at the clinic?

Yes, we have toilet facilities on site. They are also disability friendly.

How do I check my osteopath is regulated?

All osteopaths are regulated and must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council in accordance with the Osteopaths Act 1993. They also have undergone at least 4 years of training to be granted the use of the title Osteopath. It is illegal for someone to call themselves an osteopath without being on the register. Every registered osteopath’s details can be found on the General Osteopathic Council Register.
